La Paz: Roving reporters

Year 4 students are out all over the school premises, making short videos with their iPads. Their brief is to interview the head and deputies, the canteen staff and other students. They’re focused and loving what they’re doing.

La Paz: PE

The students are using their iPads to film one another on the trampoline so they can analyse their technique.

After a digital-free lesson, some students get up and use their smartphones to take a picture of the board.

La Paz: Spanish

The students are practising their spelling using the app ‘Palabraz’ as a warm-up exercise before the lesson gets underway. Much fun is being had by all.

La Paz: Robotics Club

I watch a small robot cross the classroom. It’s the creation of a year 4 student with an ingenious imagination, and a girl from year 6 did the programming. It’s not long since this dream team won bronze in Bolivia’s Robotics Olympics.

La Paz: Video conference room

Today I’m getting my first glimpse of the video conference room. It’s got an acoustic ceiling and has been fitted out with microphones and a high-res camera with zoom and panning functions. The equipment has enabled a pupil with health problems to take part in lessons from home.

LaPaz: IT

The students are working in groups to create their own video tutorial on a program of their choice. They’re using Google Docs to brainstorm and put together a plan for their work.

The students are finding out information on Berlin, two or three to an iPad. There’s a pleasant buzz in the air – lots of interaction, no noise.
